"We are excited to develop this new partnership with the Rocky Mountain Senior Games and the Colorado Senior Sports Development Council. "The chance to partner with the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation in this event opens new doors to our senior athletes to sharpen their skills and enjoy themselves as senior sport continues its rapid development and popularity across the nation."

New RMSG Sports for 2017

As the event continues to develop, new sports are evaluated and added to the State Games lineup. The 2017 Rocky Mountain State Games sports include new sports that appeal to athletes of all ages and skill levels, including those with physical disabilities or visual impairment.

Here's a look at the new sports added to the 2017 Rocky Mountain State Games:

Aquathlon - Aquathlon is a fun and fast-growing sport similar to a triathlon, but without the bike portion. The RMSG Aquathlon will take place at Prospect Lake in Memorial Park on July 29 and will be a short distance run-swim-run format.

Mutton Bustin' - In partnership with the 2017 Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo, RMSG is excited to announce the addition of Mutton Bustin' to the 2017 line-up. Mutton Bustin' is a rodeo event similar to bull riding except the participants are children ages 4-9 and will be riding sheep. The winner is the rider who holds on the longest.

ROAR Urban Adventure Race - RMSG has joined forces with UpaDowna to promote the 4th annual ROAR Urban Adventure Race on July 22. ROAR is a photo scavenger hunt throughout Colorado Springs - grab your team, roll up your sleeves, and get ready to put your brain and brawn to the test with numerous physical and mental activities along the course. Multiple courses and fun prizes will be offered.

Roundnet - Roundnet, also known as Spikeball, is a quickly-growing, fast-paced and high-energy game with no sides or boundaries and is similar to doubles volleyball in that games are played with teams of two players and teams can volley the ball up to three times in between each possession. Click here to learn how to play.

Triathlon (Indoor) - USA Triathlon has developed an indoor triathlon program called USATri60 to introduce individuals to the sport of triathlon at a grassroots level. RMSG has teamed up with USA Triathlon and the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region to engage more athletes in the sport of triathlon through a 10 minute swim in an indoor pool, 30 minutes on a stationary bike and 20 minutes of running on a treadmill, totaling a 60 minutes of activity in the three triathlon disciplines. Events will take place indoors at various YMCA facilities leading up to the Rocky Mountain State Games and the top athletes from each facility will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals.
