Competition Rules and Format: Modified National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) rules (www.nirsa.org) will govern the competition. Also, in partnership with the City of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation & Culteral Services Flag Football program, a modified Adult Flag Football Rulebook will apply. When registering, each team must specify either the recreational or competitive event.  The format is 8v8; minimum team size is 8 players per team.  The maximum team size is 12 players per team. Each individual player will be registered by his/her coach and must sign the roster/waiver; if under 18 a guardian must sign the roster/waiver. Team coaches must complete a team entry form with roster/waiver signed by each player. The signed roster must be submitted to the RMSG offices no later than Friday, July 14.  Rosters completed after July 14 must be turned in on-site to the Commissioner prior to the first game.

  

Each team is guaranteed a minimum of 3 games. The tournament will be modified pool play, dependent on the number of teams registered. The top teams will advance to bracket play. Games will consist of two 20 minute halves with a running clock until the last two minutes of the game. The clock will stop in the final 2 minutes of the game. If a team is down by 18 or more, the game will end at the 18 minute mark of the second half. Divisions maybe cancelled or combined based on Commissioner discretion and final registrations. 

Competition Field: 

  • Size:The field is a total of 100 yards: 80 yards long, 40 yards wide, with 10-yard end zones.
  • Markings:The field will be lined at 20-yard intervals from goal line to goal line. There shall be two inbound hash marks dividing the field into thirds. The hash marks shall run parallel to each sideline.
  • Team Box:On each side of the field, a team box (or area) is designated between the 20-yard lines for the teams, coaches and authorized team attendants. When the playing field is modified, the team box area will also be modified.
  • Lines:The lines bounding the sidelines and the end zones are out-of-bounds in their ENTIRETY, and the inbound area is bound by the lines.

 

Dress Code: Teams are required to wear the same/similar colored shirts; numbers are preferred but not required.
