Competition Format: The Rocky Mountain State Games will serve as the Skate City Spring Circuit Championship. Participants can register as a part of the entire spring circuit running from April-July or for the single RMSG event. 100 meter, single-lap time trials will determine seeding for the race heats. Each registrant will skate three races at three different distances. Each lap is 100 meters. The top two skaters in each group will advance to the finals. Medals will be awarded to the top three individuals in each finals race distance per age division.
Competition Rules: False Starts are prohibited. A false start is defined as movement before the official “go” of the race. First false start has skater starting 4 feet behind the line. Second false start sends the skater back an additional 4 feet. Third false start results in disqualification from the race. Fouls are defined as violations made by one skater against another and will result in disqualification. The following foul rules will be monitored and enforced: hipping, tripping, holding, charging, shoving, striking, riding in (body contact made by a skater from the outside of the track forcing another skater from line of travel), riding out (body contact made by a skater from the inside of the track forcing another skater from line of travel), or interference/blocking (skating with hands on hips with elbows extended, use of hands, hips, shoulders, or legs that interfere with another skater). Skating inside or straddling a cone results in a disqualification. A skater having one foot outside a cone and the other foot with one or more wheels touching the floor inside the cone defines straddling a cone.
Dress Code: Skaters are required to wear a helmet at all times while on the skating surface. Skaters may choose to wear appropriate clothing that allows for a full range of motion. T-shirt and shorts are acceptable attire, as are skin suits and compression apparel. All skaters are required to wear some form of inline skates. Hockey, recreational, aggressive, or speed skates are acceptable. Quads or conventional roller skates are not allowed for inline speed skating. Helmets are requireD (roller blade or inline speed skating). Some sort of gym attire (athletic shorts and short sleeve shirts) is permitted.
