Colorado Springs, June 18----------Pikes Peak International Hill Climb motorcycle star Greg Tracy is looking forward to another appearance in Colorado Springs in three weeks, but in the meantime, the Team Ducati vet is going to tackle something else that takes some courage.
Here’s the story from ESPN and the X Games:
On June 30, drivers in a Hot Wheels double loop at X Games Los Angeles 2012 will attempt to break a World Record for racing two vehicles through a six-story double vertical loop. Two drivers will accelerate to 52 miles per hour, enter a 66-foot tall loop, and will hit seven times normal gravity as they drive through the loop.
X Games RallyCross competitor and two-time Formula Drift Champion Tanner Foust will comprise Team Yellow and Hollywood stunt driver Greg Tracy will be Team Green.
Tracy (Long Beach, CA), is a six-time Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Champion, Rookie of the Year, and the 1205CC division winner most recently in 2009 and 2010. He races for Team Ducati on the Peak and will be in the loaded 1205 field again on July 8.
Although he’s new to Hot Wheel, Tracy has over 20 years of daredevil experience as one of Hollywood’s leading stunt men.
This is the first time this event has been featured at X Games, and the partnership between Hot Wheels and ESPN is also new.
"The Hot Wheels Double Loop Dare is a great addition to the X Games experience," said Tim Reed, ESPN senior director of content strategy. "We're excited about our relationship with Hot Wheels and adding this entertainment spectacle to an exciting four days of world-class action sports competition in downtown Los Angeles."
To create the loop, experts spent countless hours researching and testing the right vehicles, conducting G-force testing, and other design, modeling, and analysis.
In 2011, Team Hot Wheels landed a 332-foot distance jump at the Indianapolis 500, which broke the existing record for four-wheeled vehicle distance jump.
"We're continuing to push the boundaries of imagination by creating extraordinary real world challenges that bring Hot Wheels to life on a global scale, exemplifying the fearless and competitive spirit of the brand," said Simon Waldron, vice president of marketing for Mattel. "Our relationship with ESPN allows us to leverage the world's premier action sports stage to engage a passionate fan base who share our excitement of thrilling vehicle experiences."
The feat will be broadcast nationally on ABC and globally on ESPN's international networks at 11:20 a.m. PT June 30 on ABC.
The stunt is a life-size version of the new Hot Wheels Double Dare Snare track set, now available in stores
