Race Information

EVENT DATE: SATUDAY, AUGUST 9, 2025

The awards ceremony will be held in the Festival Area at approximately 9:30 AM. Results must be posted for a minimum of 15 minutes in case of any disputes on finish times. Awards will be given out when all recipients are present and that 15 minute period has passed.

MANDATORY brake checks will be conducted at the Glen Cove gate by Pikes Peak Highway staff for all cyclists descending from the Summit and continuing down to the highway.  WARNING: overheated rims can cause tire failure.  You may want to deflate tires prior to your descent.

We will transport your gear bag to the Summit. Transport vehicles will depart at 6:15 and 6:30 AM. Your bag MUST be tagged with your corresponding race number. Things to pack: warm dry clothing, wind gear, gloves, extra pair of shoes to enter Summit Visitor Center – CLEATS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE SUMMIT VISITOR CENTER. To enter the Summit Visitor Center, you must wear a different pair of shoes, wear socks, etc.

All USAC rules apply. USAC waiver must be signed upon registering by all racers or parent/guardian for anyone 18 years or younger. 

  • Required License: A USAC license is required to compete in any of the Competitive race categories. To purchase a one-day license, please click here. You can also purchase on BikeReg. Make sure to bring the receipt to the race. Annual USAC licenses available online at usacycling.org.
  • Please note: all Colorado annual licensees are now automatically members of Bicycle Colorado when they buy a USAC annual license, therefore, they are automatically part of the Rocky Mountain Road Cup Competition.

Cyclists will negotiate over 156 turns, for 12.5 mi/20 km, and climb over 4,700 ft. to the summit. The start line is located approximately 7 miles uphill from the Pikes Peak Highway Gateway, just past Crystal Reservoir. For Course Map – CLICK HERE. 

Did you know?: This is the same course that The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill climb has been using for auto racing since 1916.

Take I-25 to Downtown Colorado Springs. Exit I-25 at exit 141, to Highway 24 West. Follow Highway 24 West to Cascade, Colorado, approximately 10 miles. Follow the signs to Pikes Peak Highway and turn left at the Cascade traffic signal. Pikes Peak Highway will veer to your left in approximately a ½ mile.

Gateway Pass: Every single person – riders and spectators – need a Gateway Pass to access the highway, starting line, and festival/award area. Cyclists will receive their pass in their race packet. Spectators can purchase their Gateway Pass at packet pickup or at the gateway on race day. This pass does not allow you to drive to the Summit after the race. 

  • Ages 6-15 = $5 per person
  • Ages 16 and older = $10 per person
 
 

Summit Reservation (Tickets): If you would like to drive to the Summit after the race and when the Mountain opens to the public (9:00 AM), you must purchase a timed reservation ahead of time HERE.

Parking will be at multiple locations near the Start Line and down to Crystal Reservoir Visitors Area. A Cycle to the Summit staff member will be onsite to help direct you. Click here to view parking locations.

Elevation Wheel Company will capture FREE photos of you during your ride that you will be able to download after race day.

The start line is located approximately 7 miles uphill from the Pikes Peak Highway Gateway, just past Crystal Reservoir.

6:15 AM: E-Bike category begins

6:20 AM: All other cyclists begin. We will encourage cyclists to line up in this order:

1. Senior Men Pro
2. Master Men
3. Senior Men
4. Junior Men
5. Senior Women Pro
6. Junior Women
7. Masters Women
8. Gran Fondo
9. Midway Challenge Gran Fondo

There will be two shuttles onsite at the Summit. These shuttles will transport cyclists from the Summit to the start line from 7:00 – 10:00 AM. The final departure from the Summit is at 10:00 AM. There is NO fee.

This supported event includes three rest areas along the course at Glen Cove, Devils Playground, and Summit. These rest areas will have water, Powerade, and light snacks available. 
 
Elevation Wheel Company (EWC) will be at the start of the race to assist with any technical difficulties. After the race begins, EWC will follow the riders up to assist with any technical difficulties they face during the race. 
 
Please bring a water bottle and remember NOT to litter.
 

All participants will be timed using disposable chips.  Timing will be closed at the Summit at 9:45 AM.  Those that do not reach the summit by that time will not timed.

This race will be held rain or shine, no refunds. The Race Director and Pikes Peak Highway staff has the authority to cancel the race due to weather or other concerns.  Please plan to have appropriate gear available to wear or packed in your gear bag.
 
If lightning is within 10 miles, all traffic will be shut down and take shelter in vehicles staged on Mountain, personal vehicles, or shelter location. Hikers, bikers, and cyclists travel at their own risk. Once lightning is detected within 10 miles of the facility, all outdoor activities must be suspended no less than 30 minutes from the latest lightning strike. Once 30 minutes have passed without lightning or thunder, proceed to normal activity.
