Volunteer for the Pikes Peak APEX!

Join the action June 6-8 for this one-of-a-kind mountain and gravel bike challenge, featuring epic routes through dirt roads, jeep trails, and stunning alpine singletrack around Pikes Peak. Volunteers help with course support, rider check-in, aid stations, and more.

To make The APEX a success, we need 100-120 volunteers, and we sincerely appreciate each and every one. Whether volunteers help out for a few hours or all week, each one is an important part of our team.  This nonprofit event benefits the PPORA Stewardship Fund and directs the proceeds to support our mission to improve the trails and open space in the Pikes Peak region for the lasting enjoyment of its residents and visitors.

Volunteer FAQs

Yes!  We have jobs that don’t require lifting heavy objects or standing all day.

Of course!  We have a few limited slots for course crew where you will be riding ahead or behind the event and overseeing signage.  We also have some remote course marshal slots where you will need to ride out to an intersection and marshal a corner out in the backcountry.  Let us know if you are up for the challenge!

If you need to cancel, let us know as soon as possible so we can cover your shifts.  Please email our volunteer coordinator Christa Giasson at APEXvolunteers@thesportscorp.org.

Please let us know ASAP if you can’t make the Volunteer Orientation on Tuesday, September 6 at 6:00pm. The volunteer meeting is required for many important reasons:

  • to relay important race day information and organization
  • to meet other volunteers and your supervisor
  • to pick up your official volunteer t-shirt and sign the volunteer waiver (this waiver legally protects each volunteer as well as the event)
  • to find out where to park and find help, and
  • to go over safety rules and answer questions.

We will have different instructions for different volunteers, so it is important that you attend the volunteer meeting to find your group and know where to be the morning of the event.  Some volunteers will park anywhere they can near the start line and some will meet to be shuttled to spots on the mountain where they will be marshalling.

This is Colorado, so be ready for anything!  Please check the weather, but prepare for a low in the 40’s in the morning and in the 70’s in the afternoon.  Also bring a rain jacket and a hat.  Remember—if you have a course marshal spot up on the mountain it can be 10-15 degrees cooler up at altitude.

Yes!  Please know that a parent must sign a waiver for any minor who is working the weekend.  Any minor under 16 years old must work a volunteer spot with a parent or guardian.

An official Pikes Peak APEX volunteer shirt.  If you work more than one day, you will get two shirts plus an additional bit of swag.  If you work three or four days, you will be eligible for even more cool stuff!
